one.

Keighley Krueger was born in Ann Arbor, a city 40 miles west of Detroit in Michigan, on August 5, 1991. Her mother, Ana Sofía (née Pérez), hails from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and emigrated with her family to America when she was 4, while her father, George, is Michigan born and bred, having lived in and around Ann Arbor all of his life. She has an older brother, Leighton (born 1989), and a younger sister, Ryleigh (born 1995). Keighley's father is the Battalion Chief for the Saline Area Fire Department, while her mother works as an obstetrician-gynecologist, otherwise known as an OB-GYN, at a local health clinic in Ann Arbor. Both of her parents are Catholic, so Keighley attended church regularly and had her own confirmation ceremony when she was 7 years old. Strongly believing their children should be raised bilingual, Keighley was taught Spanish before she was even taught English, and her mother only ever spoke Spanish to her. She spoke English at school and with her father, whose Spanish wasn't articulate by any standard.

School life for Keighley was easy. Ever since she was a young child, she knew she wanted to follow her father's footsteps and become a firefighter. She set out to study subjects that directed her towards this career path, and when she graduated high school, she went straight to Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor. There, she studied Health Science, Biology and Surgical Technology. These three subjects allowed her to take classes on CPR, Professional Rescuing, Human Anatomy, Physiology, Sterile Processing, Pharmacology and Clinical Education. She took a liking for the medical side of things, hoping to be an EMT in her father's fire department. This led to her achieving an associate's degree in Health Science, and once she graduated college, she looked into the fire academy.

Unfortunately for her, Keighley's father's fire department were not opening their fire academy for another 18 months. While her father assured her she could use this time to strengthen her chances of passing said fire academy, Keighley saw this as a chance to look elsewhere. Travelling had always been something she wanted to do, although she didn't plan on it so soon. Her aunt and uncle resided in Los Angeles, California, and so she looked into their local fire departments in the hopes of an academy opening up soon. It was unrealistic of her to think her aunt and uncle would allow for her to move in, only being able to travel the 2,400 miles to visit their niece once every few years, but they surprisingly supported the idea as her uncle, like his brother, worked as a Lieutenant for the Los Angeles Fire Department. However, Keighley had also missed the fire academy application date for LAFD by just 4 days, although 2 hours down the road in Red County, the academy application stage was still open.
